All i seem to be spinning lately is this house music. Its mainly french, and pretty disco. I only have a bunch of tracks at the moment, but believe me i'm working on it. However, until I have everything i want in perfect bit rate quality, you can make do with this. Just a little schooling into the genre (French Filter House).. that I put together in a quiet hour over the weekend. .
You should be seeing a lot more of these grooves over the next couple of weeks as my collection takes shape, and i decide to share some of my favourites with you all. .
If you don't get any of what i just said, or have any idea as to what music it is.. just think disco daft punk and download.

Spring 'N'Bass

Brazils golden boy. Roll on June 2nd.
Sooo.. My man E-Rock (MarriedTo The Streets ) threw this at me the other day and it is beautifullllll. In his words... "an hour of drum and bass, mostly chill, light, very Hospital influenced, springy stuff, but some darker and bouncier stuff thrown in. Spring recreated.".. I agree 100%.

One For The Weekend
Damn I love Ed Banger's artwork. I also love this brand new Spiller (yes, formerly associated with Sophie Ellis Bexter) remix of Mehdi's standout track. Mehdi's album, again something that I love. If you like the original, get this, if you haven't heard the original, get this, if you dont like the original, this isn't for you.

Music and Thinking are so Alike
Ben Westbeech. His album is one of the best things i've come across all year, and is constantly spinning with me. Recognised by Gilles Peterson, his single "So Good Today" was the first to be released on Brownswood Recordings (Petersons Own Label). . .
He can also be found in some pretty hot drum and bass tracks... See "Number One" and the Rockers Mix of "Get Closer" with producers Die & Clipz.. if thats your sound.
Well.. Here's his Annie Mac MiniMix.. and a highlight off the album...
MP3: Ben Westbeech - MiniMix (5 minutes (six here)..usual thing..)
MP3: Ben Westbeech - Get Silly
Previous B. Westbeech track.. (RIP) -- Here **** (Highly Highly Recommended)
You've now got to grab the album.. or for those of you who spin, get the vinyls for some smooth remixes. . @ Brownswood. Or Amazon for those of you a little less cultured.
Remixes = Domu/Osunlade/Karizma/Wahoo
And those of you into your new music.. funk/jazz/soul.. keep checking the brownswood site cause theres some outstanding acts coming out of there at the moment (Jose James..)
Other News, some of you mightve been lucky enough to see the Justice d.a.n.c.e video.. I have...woahh. I want those t-shirts.

Playtime's Over
Finally got hold of a copy of the new Wiley offering. Artwork of the year?
Here it is.
1. 50-50
Talks about his new record deal (Big Dada), and compares it with his last (XL Recordings). Makes me laugh.
"It ain't 2% after recruitment blud, its 50-50"
2. Bow E3
Huge bassline. Draws away from the content of the song, but nice for a shuffle.
3. Slippin
Another great beat. Wiley on top of his game. Something about "slipping in South-west London" Why? Chorus could be a tiny bit grating, but top track nonetheless.
"I wont get cosy here in england, im going back to trunidad and tobag-o, if i was you i wouldn't watch my dough cause i would never let 2 pounds go"
4. Flyboy
Up to here, its still grime 100%. Chopping the vocals & beat everywhere. Not as standout as the other tracks, but its still strong vocally.
5. Baby Girl
For me, one of my favourite tracks on here. Much slower, not as grimey. . more commercial. Ode to his daughter i guess.
"She might wanna be a nurse or a vet, but i will lock that off, cause musics best"
"And she loves dada, theres no one above dada, dada's signed to big dada, its my duty im back with a banger, im a real striker not a goal hanger"
6. Gangsters
Another favourite. Tunes been round for a while, and i'm still loving it. A definite club banger.
"Been away for a while, had sway for a while.."
7. Stars
Going at everyone. Still got the agression. Not my type of track.. but strong vocally.
"Who's got lyrics? Who's got bars? Who can stay up in the sky like stars?"
8. Letter To Dizzee
Sounds like a beat off dizzee's first album. Another standout track as far as I can see. He's growing up, and letting dizzee know how it is.
"Ready to drop my album, whens yours dropping? On the new label, I make music, not cause im willing, cause i'm able.."
9. No Qualms
"I wear my own garms". Grime Again.
10. Johnny Was A Bad Boy
Looking back at someone he knew, or an event in his life. . You know the type
"Me and johnny in a dance one time, when a big faced bre tried to step across the line, he didnt know that johnny had a 9, neither did i at the time"
11. Nothing About Me
A little London Lesson. Slow piano-y track with a bit of an r&B chorus.
12. Come Lay With Me
R&B again, female vocal. Wiley's part minimal.
13. Get Along Gang
Another highlight. Bouncy beat, and i'm laughing again. Highlighting, humorously the internal conflicts within the grime scene. Sounds almost computer game soundtrack like.
"G's too serious, wileys a joker, g's play kano, wiley plays poker"
“I’m a real mic man not a barrister”
14. Eskiboy
Grimey again.
"Eskiboy..Eskiboy.. Eskiboy" etc.
15. Playtimes Over
Title track and closing the album. He's got more sense now, so playtime is over. Apparently.
On the whole an awesome album, that toes the line between grime and commercial perfectly.. I hope it sees good sale's and dizzee's going to have to go some to beat this. Released on the same date as Dizzee.. 4th June. Features production from himself, JME and Scorcher. .
MP3: Wiley - Gangsters
And lets all make sure we buy the album when it drops. . here or here.

Serve Like Federer, You Return like Henman
Just a quick one..
Kano's new mixtape dropped on the 16th. . Proving again that he's one of Britains best. Plenty of standout tracks, but I had to choose one to share with you. Usual Kano flow over jay's P.S.A beat.. throwing plenty of subliminals around, yet still sounds light-hearted and quirky. More material coming from him in July of this year.
Spend your pocket money on him, here

My Sound of The Summer
To name this as my song of the summer already, when we're barely out of Winter could be seen as a rush of blood to the head.. but, if you listen to this preview.. you may see why i'm smitten with it already. If the preview does it for you.. wait until you hear the full version + remixes.. ! Wow.

UK Style
Seeing as there aint too much exciting me from the States, i thought i'd bring you a little bit of UK's finest. Completely slept on at the moment by the majority, and while it's a bit patchy in quality at times, the rate of production means there are always some big tracks flying about. Heres some brand new, some classics, just to school you a little bit. Lets support as well.
MP3: Dizzee Rascal & Skream - Request Line Freestyle
Thanks to Analog Giant.
Dizzee doing what he does best over a track by UK Dubstep producer Skream. ***
MP3: Just Blaze - 101 Sessions (Ft. Skepta, JME, Klashnekoff)
Brand New track i just got in today. Not sure what just blaze is doing over here, but im not complaining.
MP3: Kano - Mr Me Too Freestyle
One of the industries pioneers, along with Dizzee and the recently retired Wiley. Can't wait for the new album.
MP3: Wong - Gudthing (Ft. Thuy)
Not a personal favourite of mine, although doing the rounds at the moment and loooks to be one of the bigger tracks of the year.
MP3: Roll Deep - Floating Thru Da Sky
Commercially viable grime. Something Roll Deep seem to have mastered since the departure of Dizzee. 2nd album picks up where the 1st left us.
MP3: SkinnyMan - No Big Ting
Not really grime, but brilliant nonetheless. Off the quality album "Council Estate Of Mind". ***
MP3: Sway - Month In The Summer
For me, the hottest Britist Artist out there. While album flopped slightly.. talent can't be denied, and following visits to the states where he recorded tracks with Lupe Fiasco and 2 with Chamillionaire, mainstream success should eventually reach him. ***

Spring To Summer Cuts

I don't think i'l ever get tired of this groove. Bob Sinclar's Remix- mellowing out the original and leaving it with enough funk to get the foot tapping, but stopping short of the point where you start move busting. One of my favourite dance tunes of all time.
MP3: Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You (Bob Sinclar Remix)
And while we're on the subject of songs to see out the summer with. . you can't go wrong with any of the stuff Future Jazz artist Quantic makes. Several albums of his available. . here
A favourite of mine..featuring female vocalist Alice Russel.
MP3: Quantic - Mishaps Happening
And, something completely different and unrelated. Because its rather good. The Shins.

Mash It Up

Another mix rip for you today, this time Calvin Harris does the minimix on Annie Mac's Show.. was done end of February but only just got in contact with this mp3 copy of it. Well, yeah usual thing.. 5 minute minimix where as many tracks are crammed in as per possible. Love this quite a bit. . all though id quite like to hear a much longer mix by the man in question.. All Different styles involved in it - Belows just a sample of the tracklist, as the full version is seriously huge.. but ive tagged that to the mp3 file, so needn't worry. 5 minutes long, what have you got to lose?
The Emotions – Best Of My Love
Outkast – Two Dope Boyz (in a Cadillac)
Calvin Harris – Merrymaking At My Place
Daft Punk – Daftendirekt
Justin Timberlake – Sexy Back
Gangstarr – Daily Operation (intro)
David Bowie – Lady Stardust

Beau Love

Another cracking release from my new best buddies Appletree Records. . This time they bring us Indian Beat-maker Beau Love and his "musical journey of rough beats, samples and instrumentals" .
Received the album yesterday, and although its nearly all instrumental (bar a few vocal samples and a nice little feature from MC Kool Keith), it hasnt left my player since... Whereas there is always a producer with one hot beat, its rare that you get an album load like this in such a short space of time, with even the greatest of the game compiling them over many number of years..
Needless to say I can't wait for the next release from the label.. Oh yeah, and you can't beat a feature by Louis Theroux.. I think.
Buy, or hear samples from the album, here...
And here's favourite track off the album.
MP3: Beau Love - Shake 'n Fries
(((eXclusive)))
And for those of you who missed it.. Check Label Mate.. Sotu The Traveller on a previous post I did. . .
Lastly, while im still plugging.. those of you who like their soul/funk/hiphop in the mix.. The AppleTree Records Smoothies Vol 1
.. is probably something you'l enjoy. .

Up Erol Alkans Sleeve...
Aiiite. Had this for a while now, but never quite got round to sharing it. Midlake are a talented band born out of Texas, who will now have many followers after the goings on of SXSW festival....but yeah, I recommend you grab their newest album "The Trials of Van Occupanther", available at amazon .
So again, Beyond the Wizards Sleeve are a remix duo, comprising of Erol Alkan and some other bloke, who's name escapes me. I hear there is a full length album on the way, which should be pretty good from what theyve shown. . . .Remixes out at the moment include a rework of new singer/songwriter type Findlay Brown annnnd one of that "Young Folk" track that Diplo recently reworked. Have a listen, and keep in the circle regarding the album at their myspace....Here.
Where do they come together.. well take the standout track off Midlake's new album, and let erol and his unknown buddy give it some work.. and you get this.. one of my favourite tracks of 2007 so far.

And so i can plug the Mash-Up again (Fridays 10 - 12pm, On Radio 1). Well yeah, i'm slowly working my way into the drum and bass scene, and these guys have carried me further into the genre. Anyway, hearing it on Friday, i grabbed the album today. And now i'm gunna share my two favourite cuts from the album.... Good Music Friday

This first surfaced back in september O6. It's by Sonar Kollektiv duo Ame. And has to be one of my favourite minimal tracks ever. Whereas minimal can get a bit boring, this certainly doesn't. And while I lost sight of the track for a few months, I was reminded of its greatness this week when i was down town in some trendy clothes shop and heard it come over the speakers. I found I was unable to keep still. Pastaboys remix is also a beauty. But just incase you have never heard the track il drop it here for you, if you like, you can buy it here. And yes I seriously recommend you do. Another recommendation, i also suggest you grab the "Ame...Mixing" that they released last year also. Its also available at Phonica. Perfect to fall asleep to.
MP3: Ame - Rej
While I'm here I might as well push you in the direction of Mark Ronson's Album, which has recently reached me. Firstly, you might want to check out Theserockspop for two cuts from the album and a Dirty South remix off the CDS version of his latest single "Stop Me".
After a first listen, the track that has probably stuck with me so much is his take on scouse indie band the zutons "Valerie" bringing in none other than Amy Winehouse on vocals. I'm not usually a massive fan of her's but I have to admit she nails it here.
Make sure you cop the album here.
MP3: Mark Ronson - Valerie (Ft. Amy Winehouse)
I'l leave you with this track by Calvin Harris. Who in many peoples eyes is the new mylo. I believe he's scottish as well. Well.. i actually prefer this track to the single he released "Acceptable in the 80's". He's been asked to do production on the new Kylie album, as well as releasing his own album due sometime in June. Check for updates on its release here and at his myspace. Currently on tour with Faithless.

Lastly, a sort of ode to biggie from Guerilla Black. Sort of sounding like its biggie rapping to himself, but beyond that i think its pretty hot. Off a Guerilla Black mixtape, however not sure of the name. Anyone reallly wants to know the name, ask nicely, and il go find. Enjoy.

Everyones favourite machoman 50 is back with his new lead off street single "Straight To The Bank". I kind of like it, but i dont really think its anything different to his old stuff, the production's still tight, and he still sounds the same. Produced by Dr. Dre and some other guy whose name escapes me. Should do pretty well nonetheless.
Mp3: 50 Cent - Straight to The Bank
And in a week, where ive enjoyed going back to a bit of hip-hop. . . I rather belatedly have discovered Kidz in the Hall (Produce Double O and MC Naledge). Sounding closest to Lupe Fiasco. possibly Kanye West, the guys are signed to Rawkus Records, and people, me included are expecting big things of them innnnn 07. Heres their flow over souls of mischief - 93 til infinity beat.
