Straight To The Bank

Just spotted this on AllHipHop.com/Notes From A Different Kitchen...

Queens, NY rapper 50 Cent may have good reason to brag on his new single "Straight to the Bank." Glacéau, makers of vitaminwater, was acquired by The Coca-Cola Company today (May 25) for $4.1 billion dollars in cash [emphasis added]. 50 Cent invested in Glacéau in 2004 and owns 10% of the company [emphasis added]. Sources told AllHipHop.com that Coca-Cola's purchase of Glacéau earned the rapper an estimated $400 million dollars. Glacéau markets and sells popular energy drinks named vitaminwater. The company markets and distributes a grape flavored energy drink inspired by 50 Cent named "Formula 50." "This is an outstanding opportunity for both of our companies to build an expanded active lifestyle business, first in the United States and then around the world," said Muhtar Kent, president and chief operating officer of The Coca-Cola Company.

Not a bad bit of business you'l probably agree.. I wonder how Camron will respond..?

Acid In Your Headphones

James Ellis Ford and James Anthony Shaw are Simian Mobile Disco, and while people rave on about an overhyped Justice release, their awesome record, due on 18th June.. is being overlooked. There are only two ways to listen to this.. headphones or live. Squeaks and bleeps till your hearts content.

You was Hot but can't stay in the flame

The Game (Ft. Dj Premier (Scratches)) - Common (Produced. Kanye West)

Me And My Mic Again

Just A quick one.. the track Kano and Kate Nash perform on the video i've posted a few days back has been stuck in my head for a long while now.. and I know that some of you feel the same way..

So I got a rip of it (320kbps). Not brilliant quality as it was Live and a bit dodgy on the video... but its the best your gunna get.. and should keep you going until the album drops early next year.

Prequel To The Sequel

Finally getting round to this. Sway's newest release "One For The Journey EP" appeared on the 21st of May, labelled as "the prequel to the sequel" - something to keep the fans going until his next full length release, which I gather he is busy working on at the moment.

1. True Stories (Produced. By Sway)
Already it's vintage Sway.. the speed and wit had me rewinding the track several times just to pick new lyrics up. Touching on the problems of modern day UK, Sway here portrays a much darker side, very different from the humor we have seen on tracks to date. While some rappers let the agression take over the lyrics on more serious tracks, Sway toes the line perfectly mantaining his quickwit and slick wordplay throughout.

2. Move Back (Ft. Chiefer) (Produced. By Skilosio)
Even darker sounds from Sway as he journey's his way over epic strings and occasional gun shots. Again, its a side to him that we've not seen before, but it's a brilliant way to hit back at those who have criticised his carefreeness of previous releases. I prefer True Stories personally, however, yet again, Sway's charisma keeps the listener intrigued.

3. Baby Father (Produced. By Youngstar)
Grime, and the mood is lifted. This is Sway at his story telling best, narrating tales of unresolved parentage. Again lyrics and delivery are perfection, and again another track which had me rewinding, even though I'd seen it as a b-side previously.

4. Up Your Speed Pt.2 (Ft. Chamillionaire)
Again Sway and Chamillionaire trade verses in a fast paced exchange of wit and boasts. Here Sway is the star dropping lyrical gems aplenty; "Your profile views I can earn in a day", "Got a flow tighter than a batman suit", "Other MC's try to keep up with the Jones's, but we keep the Jones's up". One of the highlights.

5. Ex Boyfriend (Produced. Dj Turkish)
Change in tempo, as Sway tells relationships his way. More reminiscent of tracks from his long line of mixtape releases, but again is a perfect illustration of his versatility.

6. Every Man For Himself (Ft. Mr Hudson)
Joins forces with another of the UK's rising stars Mr Hudson on this genre crossover. And while not on the same level as their other collaboration to date "Ask The Dj Remix", it is again another show of what the UK scene has to offer.

7. Get Em'High (Stanton Warriors)
Another genre crossover as Sway teams up with dance crew Stanton Warriors to produce a very tidy club track.

Sway has again brought something different to the table, giving us another insight into this unique talent, and further increasing anticipation for the next installment. There are few who can match his lyrical prowess or versatility, and if rumours are to be believed future collaborations with Pharrell and Akon are sure to take him to the next level as he continues his journey to the top.

Can't Tell Me Nothing Official Mixtape

I promise i'm gunna get off this rap groove soon.. but not yet. .

1. Friday Morning, May 25th, 2007 (Intro)
Over the daft punk, no rapping, just talk's. Not much for me to say. Oh, the polo is versace by the way.

2. Stronger (Snippet)
All the hype has been about this track. Loops the daft punk harder, faster etc. beat with some added drums. It's a 1.30 snippet, and I love it. . Little talking at end. . he's pushing the album date forward.
"Lets get lost tonight, you could be my black kate moss tonight, play secretary, il be your boss tonight"

3. US Placers - CRS
Highlight for me.. In fact, potentially the strongest ive heard. Lupe, Pharrell and Kanye. Lupe's verse being the pick of them, although kanyes is strong and pharrell proves he can still rap. Over the Thom Yorke Eraser beat - who's vocals are left in for the chorus.. Only listened twice, but from what I can make out, it's about true fame, and how cheap it is..Download at bottom. Lupe's verse woah..

4. I ain't Even On Yet - GLC
One of kanye's apprentices, never quite sure what he's doing and why I can't find a full release by him. Bland track - and a bit dumbed.

5. Can't Tell Me Nothing
The Full Single.

6. Southside - Common
I "shared" a rip of this last week. A version first came about near the superbowl. Haven't l listened properly, but think its just repping of the south/chicago. Going to be on Commons new Album. Snippet.. but it's different to the version floating around the net.

7. The Game - Common
Another new common track. Spoke about this one before. Nice as per usual.

8. Porno (Interlude)
..........

9. Stay Up - 88 Keys (Snippet)
Features Kanye & wordsmith Malik Yusef. Probably signed to GOOD music (Kanyes imprint) as Ive never heard of them. Something to do with what goes on in the bedroom.. Contains a Borat reference.

10. In The Mood - Talib Kweli
Also coming with his album this year. Love the beat with the trumpets, not sure who though. Guest from.....Mr. West.
"Wear the night like a cloak, cause i move through the stars"

11. C.O.L.O.U.R.S - Fonzworth
Kanye West's Butler Fonzworth Bentley. Guests from Lil' Wayne and Pimp C. Not a fan of this really.. chorus gives me problems and Bentley's more talking than rapping. A skip track.

12. Pro Nails - Kid Sister
A request from DJ A-Trak for a guest verse from kanye west... Not a fan of female's rapping, but she puts UFFIE to shame. Passes me by a bit.

13. Young Folks
He never ceases to amaze me, this is over the Peter, Bjorn and John (or whoever) beat that diplo and a bunch of others recently remixed.. Another reason for that whistle line to be knocking around my head for a little while more.

14. Interviews (Interlude)
Rant at interviews and paraphrasing. With the whistling carried on from the track before.. just in case you didnt pick it up before.

15. The People - Common
My favourite new common track.
"My Daughter found nemo, I found the new Premo"

16. Get'cha Some - Big Sean
Poor beat, nice words. Who is he?
"Im in the limelight, till the point my skins green"

17. Don't Forget Them - Consequence
Another of Kanye West's GOOD crew. Had quite a nice album out a while back but its faded from my playlist pretty quickly. Gets a lot of stick for impersonating his master. Don't forget them when your rich.

18. White (On The Floor) - SaRa
From GOOD. Recently got their album, but not sure what to make of it, the talents there but it seems all a bit far fetched. I skipped.

19. Because Of You Remix - NeYo
Made a good track better. I shared this yesterday, go and find it.

20. Buy You A Drank - T Pain
Shared this as well I think. Kanye guest verse. Rumoured to be a collaboration between him and T-Pain on the album.

21. Throw Some D's (Interlude)

22. Throw Some D's Remix
The hyped remix.. Too hyped for me by now.

23. Dreaming of Your Love -Tony Williams
A r&b/soul number from someone Ive never heard of. Quite like it though, if theres a full song..

24. Magnetic Power - Really Doe
Love this track. Really Doe's the guy from the Kanye and Nas Track whose name escapes me.. off Late Registration. I'm going to research him..

25. Hater Family - PM
If your father was a hater, and your mother was a hater, you'l be a hater too.....?

Fades towards the end, I dont really like to listen to mixtapes mainly because the listen is broken up by short songs/skits/interludes. But this is better than a majority i've heard.. and is purely worth it for the Lupe/Pharrell track (Below). Can't wait for the album.. Due September 8th Originally. Now pushed forward till?

MP3: Us Placers - CRS (Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Pharrell)

Come Around

Saw this on ChantelleFiddy, and it's been in my head since, even though at first, I had no idea what the track was about, or who Collie Budz was. A quick bit of research and I've so far established that he's out of Bermuda, has a very healthy selection of tunes behind him... and is, surprisingly, white (probably just my ignorance). As for the track, its for the Bermudan people who don't get good weed all year long, so it's about appreciating it when they get it. Not something Ive had experience with but the track sure is hot, and the video's quite nice as well. Reminds me of Cuba... I'm off to hunt down the album..

Be sure to check him out @ His Myspace.

Miamimore

Following the flop of the above album.. ive been waiting to see where he heads next. . And apparently it's "Miamimore" - Miami b'more. Pretty apparent from the Neptunes production on the new Twista lead off single; "Give It Up". Awesome beat and will be all over the airwaves in the states pretty soon i should imagine..

Look out for the guestlove remixes of In My Mind which are/should be circulating at the moment.

Southport weekender sounded like it was amazing.. Just working my way through the sets at the moment. . No surprise that I thoroughly enjoyed Ben Westbeech's 40 minute set. I'm not gunna rave about him any more than I already have.. though if you haven't heard of him.. you should. MYSPACE

More Common On Kanye

Rip of another track off "Finding Forever" due July 17th. Kanye on a verse too. This is the full version not the snippet that was out around superbowl time. Album should be amazing, so far confirmed guests include Lilly allen, Bilal, Dwele and of course Kanye.

MP3: Common - Southside (Ft. Kanye West)(Rip)

And seeing as i seem to be warming more and more to dwele's sound.. Here's a rarity i particularly like on a J dilla beat (i think).. feel good soul.

MP3: Dwele - Dime Piece (Remix)

Pogo

New Digitalism Video. Just as hot as the song.

Thursday, 17 May 2007

he's relapsing, look how he's rapping..

First heard about this song when I heard Mark Ronson saying some very good things about Jay-Z. . since then it's been my most anticipated release - not because I'm a fan of the original.. but because of this man.

MP3: Amy Winehouse - Rehab (Remix Ft. Jay-Z)

Soil And Pimp

Some of the most interesting Jazz i've heard in a longwhile. Straight out of the Brownswood imprint. Gilles Petersons label, something I truly adore.. Grab any of their releases here..
New album on the way this Summer. Should be consistently brilliant, just like their other's. Would have put some bio on here, but this damn softwares doing my nut. So i recommend you get it here..

HipHop

HipHop got pretty boring for a period at the start of this year, but again its starting too look up. Albums dropping from Common, Talib Kweli, Kanye and even Jay-Z set to drop one late 07/early 08.. so i'm pretty excited. . That and Wiley/Dizzee combination over here. Those releases are just a few of whats coming this summer, but i won't bore you with a list.. Instead here are some of the tunes from some of the artists dropping albums this year... All New.

MP3: 50 Cent - Straight To The Bank (Produced Dr. Dre)

Not my favourite artist of all time i must admit, but at least you know what your getting with him. And yes, its the same. Polished production, usual rhymes. But its good for a while. Prefer it over another tune knocking around at the moment, candy shop take "Amusement Park". Album, "Curtis" is due on June 26th.

MP3: T Pain - Buy You A Drank (Ft. Kanye West) (Remix)
(Check Previous posts for new Kanye Material)

I get pretty excited about any new material from Kanye west.. here's a song by T-Pain.. i usually skip the rest of the track after Kanye's verse. You'll see why..
His new album, "Graduation", is set to be released September 18, 2007.. but expect that to be delayed. Supposedly featuring tracks with John Mayer, Chris Martin and Young Jeezy.

MP3: Common - The People (Ft Dwele) (Produced. Kanye West / Cuts from Dj Premier)

I could sit and listen (look) at him all day.. Album due July 17th.

Brand New Lupe;

Lupe Fiasco - Bottom, Top (Thanks To Discobelle)

Lupe also has an album dropping.. October 31st. Featuring, Sway, Pharell and Kanye West among others.

Lastly.. Brand New Sway EP arrived this week. . Going from strength to strength. Make sure you grab it here at HMV.

Track Listing:

  • 1. True Stories
  • 2. Move Back-Feat. Chiefer
  • 3. Baby Father
  • 4. Up Your Speed Part 2-Feat. Chamillionaire
  • 5. Ex Boyfriend
  • 6. Every Man (For Himself)-Feat. Mr Hudson

Whether you love him or hate him. Heres a freestyle some of you may have missed this year, rapping on Rich Boy's "Throw Some D's" + the video. And a very rough clip of one of his new tracks.. premiered by A-Trak. . Sampling.. Daft Punk. Already it sounds hot..

MP3: Kanye West - Throw Some D's (Freestyle)

And the New Track..

Let me know what you think... More HipHop coming later.

Another Exclusive...

I've been meaning to do a post on this for quite a while now. First heard it being played by Pete Tong as his "One For The Weekend" the week after the Miami Winter Music Conference. The track is called "Transistor Radio" and is by "Fragmente". Unfortunately, right now, I can't provide you with the track... however though.. this link here will take you to a stream of it off Fragmente's Myspace. Where, i should add, you should also check out the other tracks that are available for listening. . . FRAGMENTE MYSPACE .

Pete Tong continues to spin it each week on his radio show, as well as in many of his live sets.. and good reviews in Mixmag and DJ magazine mean it won't be long before we all start hearing a lot more of these guys... as can be seen by their recent entry into the Buzz Chart at No. 11. Which again is a brilliant achievement for a brand new artist/label.

Another track by the guy's, "Think Of Love" is on the new Zabiela/Fanciulli "One + One" Ministry Compilation. One of the fastest selling Ministry compilations in years. I suggest you all check that out as well.. I'm yet to hear it, but the Zabiela/Fanciulli team, is one of the best in a long time. Get it here...

At the moment, the guys from Fragmente are hard at work on their second release which is due in June.. and should promise to be another huge track, just as "Transistor Radio" is sure to be.

For dj's the vinyl is slowly working its way into circulation, so to grab it.. i suggest JUNO at the brilliant price of 6 pounds.

So yeah, honestly support these guys, and i'm not lying when I say this is, along with the new Axwell, probably my favourite dance track of the year.

Also be sure to check their amazing "Get the F out of My House" Promotional Mix on their myspace. For those of you too lazy.. just right click/save as on here..

Thanks To Pete Devereaux (Formerly of Artful Dodger) for all his help.

Treasure Fingers

Atlanta's Treasure Fingers. Love what i've heard so far, so I decided you should all take a listen. Funk, r'nb and electronica influences can all be heard in his track "Cross The Dancefloor".. which is tried and tested, to good effects, on many US dancefloors. . So there is no reason why it shouldn't be the case here..

Album on the way.. and over at KissAtlanta, they've heard snippets.. and are pretty confident it's as hot as this track.

Treasure Fingers is also part of what seems to be drum n bass/hiphop group Evol Intent.. and while he's not doing that he's producing hiphop for acts such as The Pack and most recently Ciara...

In my eyes, he's definetely one to watch.. so expect some more sometime this summer..
Two Tracks.

Wrapping up of April..Pt. 2

Other stuff i've been enjoying, but haven't had the time to let you know about it.. in other words, my most played..

My stevie wonder track of the moment.."Another Star".

MP3: Stevie Wonder - Another Star

I love Buzzin Fly record label. This song is probably my favourite to come from them, off the 2005 release "Outspoken Part 1". It's by Ben Watt (half of Everything but The Girl), with guest vocals from Estelle. Keep checking the website for new releases, or catch up on what you've missed from the label at beatport. Its summertime house with soul...

MP3 - Ben Watt - Pop A Cap in Yo Ass (Ft. Estelle) (Edit) Highly Highly Recommended.

In case You missed me going on about it before, make sure you set aside a tenner to buy Wiley's new album "Playtime Is Over"... Out June 2nd. Promo track and track by track album review, here. Boy can that guy spit....

Total Science (See Post Coming), Matrix / Futurebound have both been big on my most played list this month, but as far as drum and bass goes.. the month belongs to a track i was passed a while ago but it just passed me by. The original, i must admit, isnt a favourite of mine, mainly because Ghostface's rapping voice doesn't sit with me, but for the summer, Ne-Yo's voice sits perfectly on the bed provided by DJ Marky&Bungle. Watch out for both of these two...

MP3: Ghostface Killah & Ne-Yo - Back Like Dat (DJ Marky & Bungle Remix)

As far as Drum and Bass goes, also check out Alix Perez.. for the soulful side... Should hear about him pretty soon from me. .

That pretty much wraps up what I can share.. excluding.. album previews below.. but here are other tracks you should be checking out...

  • Groove Armada - Paris (Off Album "Soundboy Rock")
  • Mr Hudson & The Library - Ask The Dj (Off Album "A tale of Two Cities")
  • Kano - Kidz With Gunz Freestyle ( Off " The Mixtape") Here.
  • For a fix of soul...Shaun Escoffery - Days Like This (DJ SPinna Remix) Stay tuned. Should be appearing.
  • Anything Calvin Harris touches.. Simply on fire. Plenty of Calvin stuff on the blog. So search.
  • Anything by Up and coming house producer Steve Porter. See the latest BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix.
  • Those who like Electro..New Dada Life 12". For promo mix...See Discobelle.

Albums to check out now, or when they drop.. the ones that spring to mind anyway.. Clink any links, for an album track download. All albums available from here, now, or when they come out. Make sure you support the artist's you like..

Wrapping Up of April.. Pt. 1

Just a lot of stuff which I've meant to share, but never got round to it over the month of April...

First up is James Yorkston, and this is something i really should have given you all earlier. After a rough time bumping between bands and record labels, it seems he is now settled at Domino Records, where last year he released his third album. I do not have the album yet, but its on my list. . . i'l be grabbing it from here, feel free to do the same.
The track i got sent through "Woozy With Cider" comes with a bunch of remixes, from guys such as dubsteppers Kode9, and probably my favourite, the John Hopkins mix. It's kind of hard to describe why its so good, just a spoken vocal over a minimal instrumental, but you'l see what I mean.

MP3: James Yorkston - Woozy With Cider

Not having been schooled in all that soul.... This hit me completely. What a voice. Cheers to Pase Rock for bringing my attention to this with his WMC mix that's floating around. Get it from discobelle here... Easily one of the best mixes ive heard in a long time..

MP3: Pase Rock - Live From Miami @ WMC (Through Discobelle.......)

Tracklisting:

Pase Rock - I’m So Disco (snippet)
Chaka Khan - I Know You I Live you

Stevie Wonder - Fingertips Pt. 3 (Pase Rock remix)
Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You

But the actual Chaka track... Highly Recommended... Big summer track, and yeah i'm pretty late on it.. but the old ones are the best.

MP3: Chaka Khan - I Know You I Live you

and, while we're on the task of summer jams.. which ive got some classics coming soon.. here's one of the best from Montell. You'l all know it, just maybe misplaced, like I had.

MP3: Montell Jordan - This Is How We Do it (LP Version)

You might also remember the axwell track preview i posted a couple of weeks back.. My big tip of the summer. well it was only a 1m 44s preview. I'l offer you all the next stage now, with the full track....as a Rip... from the dance department podcast. Stay tuned for the full track. It will be huuuuuuuuge.

MP3: Axwell - I found You (Remake) (Rip)

Keep on checking at Axwell's Myspace.

TEPR, have created an absolute dancefloor smash. Trust me. Justice have been spinning, as have a lot of this scene. It's the Data remix.. unfortunately i'm not schooled on who "data" are.. so.. Electro heads..this one will suit you, albeit a Rip. Goodness knows where to find the 12". Any of you know, get in touch.

MP3: TEPR - Minuit Jacuzzi (Data Remix)

So that's part 1... part 2 will follow on sometime when ive got a spare minute.. Enjoy these, and let me know what your liking. or if theres anything ive missed.
