Safe & Sound

From RA;

Third album from the Kompakt discoteer promises to dispense with the vocals (mostly) and keep its eye on the dancefloor. Safe and Sound arrives in January.

Justus Köhncke’s previous album Doppelleben was an unlikely blend of electro-disco and crooning, but the two sides of Justus look like they’ve now officially split: Köhncke now records vocal pop tracks as Kinky Justice, while Safe and Sound focuses on instrumental dancefloor action.

The album was recorded over the last two years at Köhncke’s strange subterreanean studio, located in a Cologne city centre basement reported formerly occupied by a butcher. The tracks on Safe and Sound are variously described as “pure disco bangers” (‘Molybdän’, ‘Love and Dancing’, ‘Parage’) and “Cobblestone Jazz played by one guy alone” (‘$26’) in the press release, but check Uncle Justus’s Myspace to hear for yourself – five of the tracks from the album are now posted for listening. Let the sample-spotting begin!

Out January 28th. Bookmark it.

Black Stars

Remember Sway.... Well, he's just made his mark on the Black Boy's beat.. And to be fair, it completely trounces all other remixes of the song.. Especially with a mention of Ric Griffin for the Holby City fans.

It's available for download from his myspace page..

Go find.

+ Look out for new album in 2008..

Look out for them.. the first Wednesday of every month.

In The City @ The Weekend. .

A tiny flyer is all I could find, but if your in the capital this Saturday evening you should be aware that it is Need2Soul's last night at The Key.

The venue's class should be apparent from the link, but the music is on a whole new level. For those of you who can't decipher the flyer.. The line up; Joe Claussell, Benji B, Dixon and Sundazes James Priestley. . And there aren't many times you'd find this quality in the same venue.

For Friday Night.. My pick would be over @ The End where Dj Marky is holding another '& Friends' night. Makoto and Bungle will be with him in the main room, while in the lounge Marky will play an alternative set, with support from Phil Asher among others. Details Here.

Just listening to the Marry Anne Hobbs show with 1XTRA d'n'b DJ, Bailey standing in. Definitely worth a listen if you like that moody sound. One of the first plays of Alix Perez's first ever Techno production... LISTEN / Get Tracklist Here.

When they replace that with the new show, I've got an Mp3 if people are interested. Also features a mix from Bristol based hotshot Lomax.

Jose James Update

Long time favourite, Jose James has been in touch with a round up of what he is up to these days. . So without any further ado..

For the Americans.. if your in the NY area over the weekend..be sure to check out Jose and Salazar over at the Baggott Inn. Jose on 9-10, with Alternatives Salazar in the slot after. .

Of course, for the rest of you.. particularly for the UK heads, the next time you can probably expect to see Jose do his thing (from memory) will be at Petersens WorldWide Awards on 5th January. Go hunt.

The album is just around the corner - 28th January. Brownswood's the label. 'The Dreamer' 's the title. However, theres plenty of vinyl floating around to keep you going until then. .

And look out for the following collaborations.. I'm very very excited by some of the names. .

Elan Mehler
Flying Lotus
Ben Westbeech
Marc Rapson
Nicola Conte
TK Wonder
Yellowtail
Ryan Anselmi

Keep supporting and make sure you pencil in the 28th to your diarys. ..

Jaheim - I've Changed (Ft. Keyshia Cole)

Another late night, another gem.

MP3: Jaheim - I've Changed (Ft. Keyshia Cole)

Album coming on the 18th. 'The Makings of A Man'

Boxcutter Album MixUp

23 Minutes and 27 seconds of tracks from Boxcutters Glyphic blended seamlessly by the man himself. If you haven't checked the album yet, its definitely one that you go and grab. A very essential release. Electronica, Jazz, Reggae and of course dub influences are apparent. . But, if my words dont sway you, which I am pretty sure they won't.. the mix will. Wait until Foxy hits you.. thats the one with the 2 step and vocals. . .

If you like what you hear.. you can go pick it up at Boomkat.
And if you really like what you hear.. go one better and grab his latest 12' as well. Philly/Endothermic.

Stones Throw On Tour

Aloe Blacc sings?

Mos Def Live In Paris

Just came across this from his current tour.. New stuff sounds good. And as always, he dresses to the point.

New album said to drop in February, and thanks to the StonesThrow Messageboard.. I've come across some evidence leading me to believe that there will be some production by Madlib/Oh No. As well as Kanye.

Here's a snippet from a recent gig in Toronto. . Very short and not great quality but theres something about him put with Madlib. Can't place the beat however?

Worldwide 29/11

Not even going to give you a tracklisting.. Incredible selection this week. .

Look out for tracks by Mario & Vidic, Peven Everett, Sandy Rivera, Breakwater and just that general chunk before the hour mark which is packed full of brilliant sounds. I do have an mp3 of the show, so if anyone has problem with the player, get at me.
