funky House
One of my favourite checks on the web is Prancehall . . covering the Uk underground scene -grime-bassline-funky house- . I like to let the posts build up.. then when I'm feeling slightly bored or down, I check back for a kick. Today I checked back. He's been busy.. two brilliant introductions to Funky House. . one for NME (???), and one with DJ NG ('Tell Me') at another internet haunt of mine, Fader Magazine.
The NME one is the image above, I'm hoping you can zoom in when you click. Otherwise ....
His column at Fader is definitely worth a bookmark.... Prancehalls Bass Odyssey.

Westwood and JME crack a few jokes to end the show when JME was passing through a week back.... The new record coming looks like its going to be big. . I'l search down a release date sometime... should be in the 2nd quarter though.
On a completely different note, what is this about....?

honestly, dnB seems to be in a bit of a stupor at the moment. If it weren't for cats like Alix Perez. . . and Lenzman, i may have lost touch with it all. I know there are more people out there making good music.. but it just seems like its gone a few steps backwards.

R.I.P
Apologies for the lack of posts, I should really let you know when I'm going to be away. Hope you all made decent use of the sidebar during my absence, because thats where it is.
Yesterday marked the passing of J. Dilla.. I can't speak of how epic this guys music is, I wouldn't be able to do it nearly enough justice. He will live on forever through the music.
Stones Throw marked the day with the 3rd Act in their tribute podcast series. . But, 2dopeboyz went one stage further and uploaded all 3 of them. Which I strongly recommend you listen too, even if you have no idea who the great man was. . Usually I put on a mix to put me to sleep, tonight I'l be going the other way.. He's on so many different levels. And all credit to J.Rocc who put the three mixes together.
I realise I am probably rambling. . but it's late & i Just want to make sure you enjoy the music. But tomorow I want to share a few things that I've built up during my short stay in blog wilderness.
Sleep tight.
Rather, go listen to Dilla.

Dirty Decibels of Thomas Two Thousand
new project from up&coming beatmaker Take. Its due to drop on the 14th of February on little known but high quality label, Eat Concrete. Focusing on the low end of the spectrum he kind of reminds me of Lukid, and consequently past track 'navigators' featuring the both of them combining their talents, was one of my favourite tracks of '07. Natural is one of the key words of the EP. . from the artwork to the last track (a beauty of a remix from Sk's Dimlite) you get the feel that it is more than just a man and a studio. Its kind of hard to explain. . . . which is why I am glad that Take himself has hooked me up with two tracks.. one brand new off the forthcoming release, the other track coming from a release at the tail end of last year (Plus Ultra Ep).
MP3: Take - Lie-Twerx (From 'Dirty Decibels of Thomas Two Thousand')

Wiley is dropping another album this year. . Midtime, sometime.
But Target on 1xtra just played 2 of the new tracks.. and they willl tear many a club down in years to come. Remember what I said. LISTEN AGAIN.
And while I'm talking about Dj Target.. He holds the saturday night slot 22:00-00:00 and plays, consistently, every week, everything you might want to hear when you go out.. Well. . give or take a few tunes - but he's only got two hours to play with lets not forget. So if you ever find yourself in at that time, but in the mood for a dance. . He would be the first one I advise you to run to.

I know i'm on him allll the time. But this is seriously brilliant. . . it might even turn me back to house. Only listened to the 1st cd so far, so got the inspiration and the exclusives to come.
Should be marked down as a must buy. .maybe purely by that Ron trent Remix near the start. . Wow. ,
It also goes without saying that the Jose James album, out on Brownswood is stupidly good. It makes me feel so mature. . And tracks like 'Park Bench People' and 'Nola' will live with me forever. No matter how many times i play them. Go find. . Brownswood. If you trust the guardian; José James is a class act.
Christian Prommers Drumlesson also came out last week. . I know its brilliant. But I've had it since last autumn sometime, so I want to familiarise myself with it before i start harping on. . . Seriously good though.
