Back again.
MP3: Ryan Leslie - Just Right
on his every word at the moment. . This is taken from his 2005 album. Crazy production - anyone holding an instru? Album sooon.
MP3: Dwele - I'm Cheatin'
brannnnd new music from dwele. Admittedly not on the level of some previous material but who cares. . It's a start. Album coming sooon too.
MP3: Sy Smith - The Art Of You
Soul new for '08. . . Taken from her (do the research) third album . Very very highly recommended . Thankyou thankyou Susan.
MP3: Q- Tip - I Believe (Ft. D'Angelo)
possibly the greatest find from the recent digging i've been doing. . days after a fellow on Okayplayer said he had finally tracked down d'angelo in a US jazz bar. . I find this. the two knocked up the track stupidly quickly, but it doesn't show. Heres to a d'angelo comeback, and to me finding the actual mixtape this came from. Honestly, i could sing the praises for this alllll day.
MP3: Steph Jones - LaLa Means Love
get over the knucklehead promo-ing his mixtape at the start, and its onto a winner. Will try to find a CDQ, but bump this until then.
Honestly. . some real brilliance here - download them all. Let me know if i've missed anything, and get digging yourselves. .

Los Angeles
The new fly Lo is brilliant. This is the obligatory blog posting that one must do.
Out June 10th.
Taster.... Benji B had a fly Lo deviation special last Thursday evening on 1xtra. LISTEN AGAIN here, to hear the old, the forthcoming and the unreleased. As well as chat with the man himself. Very good listen.
Favourite track at the moment has got to be 'Melt'. Crazy drum pattern.

It's a Par. . Gate
I admit, i have absolutely no idea what is going on here. The gist of it, is that they are arguing over a phrase that doesnt exist 'Its a Par'. Its worth watching for some decent wordplay from ghetto (growing on me) and some of the facial expressions that are displayed as the slews become more frequent. It gets quite heated as it goes on, and as you'l hear the battling went on long after the show ended. . The video for that will be up on youtube soon. .
Hyperfrank seems to have a grasp on whats going on. If your interested read here and here.
Personally not impressed in the slightest by Tempa T or Jammer. The latter seems to not have any bars whatsoever, whereas Tempa T seems to have lost the art of Mcing and taken up shouting.
Only grime can create this amount of hype over something that doesnt even mean anything. I'm blogging it purely for the facial expressions, particularly, as Hyperfrank notes, ' I love seeing the video's to sets because you get to see classic moments like when Ghetto dropped "What? It's alot it's alot, I swear you man borrowed that from Josh"- (8:26 mins (VIDEO 1)) and Tempa T's shocked reaction was like Ghetto was sending for his mum.'
Goodness knows who Josh is.

Real Remix
A remix is not just a guest rappers verse tacked on the end/start of the song - see Mariah & Jays 'Bye Bye Remix'. Thats just mixtape filler.
This is a remix. Wasn't feeling the original, but the beats changed up, Usher doesn't get as tedious and Weezy and Beyonce pass through both taking the song in a better direction.
The last decent remix on this tip was Kanye and Ne-Yo on Drink N My 2step, so i'm including that for good measure.

Dub Pieces
TRG - Missed Calls EP
covering every single angle of the dub spectrum. Killer track = Missed Calls.
Ramadanman - Carla
Gilles has been on this one. . the title track is the one you really want, combining the deepest subs possible yet keeping that techno crossover sound.
Peverelist - Infinity Is Now/Junktion
Strength to strength. . Techno Influences > Dub Influences. Very very very enjoyable.
EDIT: 'MISSED CALLS' is huge.

Burial Dj Kicks
Taken directly from the mailout;
Coup!
!K7 are buzzing on the announcement that the next installment in the DJ-Kicks series comes from the hugely acclaimed, underground dubstep producer BURIAL at the end of June. The South London producer is notoriously shy of press and public performances yet his last two albums on Kode 9's Hyperdub label have established him as one of the global leaders in this exploding scene on word-of-mouth alone.
The latest DJ Kicks from Four Tet, Henrik Schwarz, Booka Shade and Hot Chip have all pushed new limits in eclecticism, making linear genre-specific DJ mixes a thing of past... so who knows where Burial will take it next. We hear whisperings from the studio that he may treat his dearest dubstep, techno and even r'n'b tracks with his unique production style before mixing them with exclusive material and... well watch this space.
Think its out on the 23rd of June.

12 of the Weeek
Big sound coming from Streathams Scrimshire - been on the Aaron Jerome remix 'Warm Sound' for longer than a minute. . The vocal arrangement of the original 'Warm Sound' (big big big big tune) kills me everytime. AJ's remix is minimal. But equally beautiful.
And of course the flip is tasty too - 'When The World Was Young pt. 2 '.
Big shout to scrimshire - definitely someone you (and I) should be keeping tabs on. By email.
Get on it @ Juno. Or any of the usual stockists.
N.B ..... The original 'Warm Sound' can also be got digitally on Itunes. :)

Martyn.

Martyn & the 3024 camp are now fully fully up and running. I told you to check out the last 12" -- Twenty Four / Velvet -- (which is now out digitally too). . . your loss/gain whether you did or not. Some deep deep detroit sounds.
Quiet since then, there has now been an explosion of activity;
myspace player is stocked. . - how crazy is 'epileptics no strobe mix'... NEED THAT.
His mix up of TRG's 'Broken Hearts' has been in my wishlist for a long while. . so i am pleased to hear that is now available. With a b-side ramadanman mix it could definitely be contender for dub 12" of the year.
The end of the month will also see the birth of appleblim's applepips imprint. . Martyn is (rightfully so!!) getting the debut release; 'All I Have Is Memories / Suburbia'. The formers on the myspace player. I'l of course shout when I know the exact date for this. The label looks like another one worth watching, with Appleblim surely one of the deepest around at the moment. Those who aren't schooled, see his work with Skull Disco projects. .
And after...
REVOLVE:R 012 - "After 7 (w. Intalex) / JW On a Good Night / Storm Watch" (apr 2008)
FATCITYRECS - Black Pocket aka Steve Spacek - "Ur'e a Sta (martyns mix)" (2008)
SUADRECORDS - Shut up & Dance - "Epileptic (martyns no strobe mix)" (2008)
3024-002 - "Vancouver / Natural Selection" (may 2008)
- - - - -
I honestly can't wait.
Also worth checking - - 'Digging In The Crates' & 'Top 10' - the latter is self explanatory, the former... very interesting read. Bookmark the blog while your passing through. .
Enough trumpet blowing, just enjoy and take note.

Month In Grime/Dubstep
Another brillliant round-up of the month.
Need to check the Riko.. and toying with the idea of checking the ghetto tape - i just dont know whether I like his sound. Is he just agressive for the sake of it? We shall see, its getting good reviews so there must be something nice there & he has a nice production team behind him - lewi white and smasher.
Get on the trim though. .
Also, later on il stick up the chipmunk freestyle on the movado track (on the rock). The one jay vocalled. . Definitely both versions are hot.
more sooon... maybe a lunchbreak thing for the next 5 days. Can't wait to get back withyou.
