Best lyrical experience possible?
At the moment. . . Yeah.
Okayplayer got audio of Elzhi's new single. ft. Ayah, who i swear used to vocal drum and bass tunes? Correct me if im wrong. .
The videos of him performing two tunes, 'Motown 25' and 'thats the one'. Both of Europass, free CD he was throwing out on tour. Free cd. puts to shame 99% of the hiphop ive heard this year..
So go peep the single on OKayplayer, hunt out Europass. . and hang tight till the Preface drops. August 12th.

justttttt a quick one to let you all know that i'l be travelling to my homeland this weekend, and will be relaxing there for the next three weeks.
don't expect a drought though, the posting should remain frequent, and hopefully in greater detail than I normally do manage.
i hope to be able to go through a lot of things that have, musically, passed me by in life. of course youth is my biggest weakness as well as my greatest strength.
so, yeah to keep it short, the ipod's full, i'm surrounded by all manner of CD's to put back in the cases and ive got 3 hours to go grab some sleep before my coach comes calling.
keep your ears open.

Sao Paulo

Born in Belgrade Serbia, street photographer Boogie possesses a rare talent for documenting the human condition. His black and white photographs capture the character and the inhabitants of some of the most tumultuous cities in the world. Traditionally photojournalism focuses more on content--recording a moment or an event-- and less upon formal concerns. However, Boogie gracefully integrates both a documentarian's eye with a finely honed artistic sensibility. Many of his images are at once deeply poignant, and totally unsettling. Boogie's work has taken him from Serbia, to Cuba and throughout South America. SAO PAULO features his remarkable impressions from one of Brazil's poorest and most troubled urban metropolises.

Don't Rush Me
Listen, there's nothing like knowin' yourself
Like the way I know that smokin's kind of broken my health
Like the way I know my flow don't make appropriate wealth
I can't change that
But funny I'm sayin' that when it's money I'm aimed at
I give a fuck if you frame that or quote it (shit)
I meant what I said cuz I wrote it, point noted
I know I'm overly sensitive when it comes to, well
Just about everything
And I'm so hardheaded, I don't need your help
Like no advice for these records 'less it's me, myself
Like I don't ever want to breathe if it requires assistance
Just, just shut down my system
I'm a victim of choosin' bad love, bad luck Lucy
Every man touched seems to be a doozy and plus
I'm attached to this looseleaf, stand on my two feet
So it's hard enough to even have to physically move me
Go ahead, try

The Preface
It’s been a long time coming, but Elzhi is finally set to release his proper solo debut The Preface on August 12. Produced almost entirely by Black Milk, The Preface shows one of the finest lyricists of his era entering raising the bar for emcees in 2008. Elzhi has been relentlessly recording of late, and while this release took longer than many of his fans had wished to see the light of day, look for the follow up The Feed to hit shelves in 2009.
In the meantime, look for the following tracklisting to give you more than enough food for thought until then:
1. Intro (The Preface)
2. The Leak (Feat. Ayah)
3. Guessing Game
4. Motown 25 (feat. Royce Da 5'9)
5. Brag Swag.
6. Colors
7. Fire (Remix) (feat. Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Fatt Father, Danny Brown, & Fat Ray)
8. D.E.M.O.N.S.
9. Save Ya (feat. T3 of Slum Village)*
10. Yeah (feat. Phat Kat)
11. Transitional Joint
12. Talking in My Sleep
13. The Science (feat. Fes Roc)**
14. Hands Up
15. What I Write
16. Growing Up (feat. A.B.)
Produced by Black Milk

Those of you who follow grime religiously will already know what Rude Kid is about. Even those who flirt with the scene will most likely have heard their favourite MC's riding the beats on logan/westwood and the like. . (Ghetto - Sing For Me).
I urge you to try this even if your not into grime. . Dubstepper's take note too - some of this is realllly moody.

' take grime back to the clubs '
.. and with Davinchie (P's & Q's) on the buttons then this has more than half a chance of doing just that. Ms. Cleo Soul also representing to the fullest.
I've got a lot of respect for Tinie, and the way he's handled himself on the come up. When your suddenly a name in the scene at the age of 16 its probably easy to lose focus on what got you there in the first place, so to come out now with his A-levels, and re-gain the buzz that was most definitely there back then, shows a matureness way above his years.
This month he's been supporting The Cool Kids &....Jay-Z! There aren't many artists, grime or non-grime, who can put that on their CV. That achievement, his anti gun/knife crime work and the new single 'Tears' tells me that a lot of good work is being done by him and his camp.
Someone who's got their head screwed on, and definitely someone we should be supporting to take grime to the next level.
You'l find some of his new tracks at his myspace
& if you wanna hear the new single, I'm sure one of the youths has upped a logan sama/westwood rip onto youtube.

Mos Def
Mos Def did the Carnegie Hall in NY the other night and with the legend Gill Scott Heron next to him it was always going to be pretty special. My dreams could only amount to seeing something like this. .
Rumours are going round that there is audio of the show so that will have to do. As soon as word hits, it'l be on here.
Until then OkP have pictures from the night (special props to Terrence Jennings), and also an mp3. . of Mos' tribute to Jay Electronica. . - And people stop wailing out on Jay Electronica - 'Why don't he drop mixtapes/albums/more songs/youtube videos/trailers to videos?' etc. It ain't gonna come any quicker, and its kinda refreshing that he aint all up in your face with all of the above every time you hit your nahright's.
So hit up OkPlayer.
-
-
-
But the real news, in my humble opinion, is that he seems to have been given the go ahead for a new album - this next bits coming straight from Wikipedia, but the general consensus is that it's coming. Previewing a whole lot of new material at the shows for one.
In recent shows Mos Def has performed new songs from his album, said to be named The Ecstatic. He has shown crowds tracks produced by Madlib and Oh No (Madlib’s younger brother), and is rumored to be going to Al Be Back and Kanye West for new material.
- - "Auditorium" featuring Slick Rick (Produced by Madlib)
- - "Super Magic" (Produced by Oh No)
- - "Twilight Speedball" (Produced by Chad Hugo & Mos Def)
- - "Priority" (Produced by Preservation)
- - "Pretty Dancer" (Produced by Mr. Porter, co-produced by Hemmy)
- - "History" featuring Talib Kweli (Produced by J Dilla)

Deviation Write Up. .
One tune that sounded so nice again last night - when Benji B dropped it out of the blue at Deviation - was Jasmine Sullivan’s “Go Brush Your Shoulders Off”. Still sounds fresh after all these years. And it begs the question (I think I asked this a few months ago): what’s happening to Jasmine? A few years back she looked all set to blow up like Jill Scott and Amerie….but she’s been strangely ‘quiet’. Anyway, big tune, still! I had a little moment to that!
Great night - and It was well busy. Got to the joint just after 10 and before I could spin around the place was choc-a-bloc!
Really loved the guy (his name escapes me) who was spinning a few tunes early-doors. He played a dope raregroove selection; Standouts for me being an old time fave favourite of mine from way back in the day: Dynasty “Adventures In The Land of Music”. Massive when I was growing up in Nigeria in the early 80s - and an original ‘London’ raregroove classic (much sampled as well!). The other tune he caught me of guard with Ethel Beatty’s “I Know You care” - Oh bwoy. Proper Boogie. This is on the flip of the much sought after “It’s Your Love” if memory serves. Roy Ayers was very adept at producing top quality boogie tunes in the 80s. Another Roy Ayers produced boogie joint we still love is Bobbi Humphrey “Baby Don’t You Know”. This always goes off! - and always sounds good at this time of the year.
Then the main man - Benji B - took to the decks. Benji B reminds me of Roger Federer in a way. His all-round game is faultless. In addition to the fact that he always drops the aces (pardon the tennis pun), his technical ability on the decks is always ‘faultless’ as well. His mixing abilities are almost second to none. And for about 45 minutes he effortlessly mixed one big tune into another to screams of pure delight. Joint tune of the night award for the biggest cheer of the night was when Benji dropped D’Angelo’s “Spanish Joint” - the whole joint went OFFFFFF. The honeys in the joint made the most noise..haha. BIG TUNE. Nice one Benji (always a pleasure). Also loved it when Benji dropped Ty’s “Do You want More” - sounded criss - and surprise surprise, who appeared out of the shadows, yes it was Ty himself (respect). Erykah Badu’s “The Healer” also went down a treat - as did Curtis Mayfield’s “Give Me Your Love” - still a big tune.
---
Then we had a cameo appearance from a vocalist whose name is/was new to me: Zakki. But I tell you what, she can SING. I was mightily impressed. She did a couple of tunes (with a backing vocalist) and they were all well received. Zakki is surely a talent to keep an ear out for. Respect!
---
*Rich Medina seems to be steadily making a name for himself; because last night I bumped into a few people I had not seen for an age. They told me they came to see Rich Medina. And he didn’t not disappoint. I caught the first 25 minutes of his set before I sneaked out of the joint at 12.30 (work this morning beckoned). Stevie Wonder’s “As” got everyone moving (never fails). And then Rich Medina dropped the other Joint tune of the night award for the biggest cheer of the night: Hot 8 Brass Band “Sexual Healing”. Unbelievable scenes. EVERYONE in the joint sang along to the tune - it evoked memories of when Marvin Gaye’s classic first came out and how we used to sing-along to it then. I still haven’t picked up that Hot 8 Brass Band version yet. Need to make amends - DREAD TUNE! Oh, big up The Peterson (as usual) on the Hot 8 Brass Band ‘exclusive’.
A special shout to Benji and Jude (yes rudebwoy..) - You guys are large.
Lovely night
: )

Really been enjoying this the past few days. . one for the late nights on the headphones.
Lot of 1 minute little 'demo's' (if you will..) scattered between the tracks, really makes the album flow. . almost effortlessly. I'm still playing Subject now, after 5 years. . I'm getting the same type of feelings when I listen to this as I did back then. .

Spec Boogie gets the centre space, cause he got that line, and that jumper.
I just want you to listen to this; some of the fastest movers from the US go verse after verse.
Von Pea
Elucid
Che Grand
WE ALL have to do some research here.
Von Pea' s group (Tanya Morgan) got a new EP out too for those who are interested. leave that for another day though. .
Grab the song, and hit repeat. . mmmmM and let me know if your feeling. After all I did an awful lot of code pasting up there.

FlyLo @ The Do-Over (25th May)
Been reading about this party for a while now - all of LA's cool kids meet here every sunday without FAIL.
The line up is allllllways stupidly good. House Shoes / Rhettmatic / Dam Funk / FlyLo / Karriem Riggins to name but a few. .
Well this morning I got hold of (FlyLo Myspace) what I'm guessing is a snippet of (25 Minutes) of FlyLo's set.

Some of the beats are far too vicious for breakfast time.
Sweeney Kovar's the authority on this.

How Many Levels?

Love the beat - real laid back . . but the imagery is the real treasure here.
MP3: Nas - Fried Chicken (Ft. Busta Rhymes) (Prod. Mark Ronson)
(Mirror)
Mmm, Fried chicken
Fly vixen
Give me
Heart Disease
But need
You in my kitchen
You a bird, but you ain't a ki
Got wings but you can't fly away from me
Driving in your bucket seats
All the way From Kentucky
To f**k with me
Look what you've done to me?
You Was number one to me!
After you shower
You and your gold medal flour
Then you rub on your hot oil for half an hour
You in your hot tub, I'm looking at you salivating
Dry you off, I got your paper towel waiting
Lay you down cause you're red hot
Louisiana style you make my head rot
Then I flock
To the bed then, "Plop"
When we done, I need rest
Don't know a part of you I love best
Your legs or your breast
Misses Fried Chicken, you gon be a nigga's death
Created by southern black women
To serve massa, guest
You gon be a nigga's death
Misses Fried Chicken
You was my addiction
Dripping wet hot, cholest
Like Greeks with their (filafo?)
Or Italians with their to-mato
Pasta
Or roach is to it's roaster
Trapping me
You and your friend mac and cheese
(Candians?) and collard greens
Cut you knocking me to my knees
Was killing me when I miss, ah
Nothing I need more than a fish fry
