Foreign Exchange - Leave It All Behind

For those that don't know, Foreign Exhange is Phonte from Little Brother + producer Nicolay.

The first album was created over the Atlantic, and was still a classic. Now that Nicolay has moved stateside it will be interesting to see what they can cook up from inside the same studio. Maybe they both need their own space and it'l be a flop?

And can Phonte actually sing? We'l see.

The summer (gone) sure does seem to belong to him. First there was 'Devil in the Blue Dress'. . then more recently 'African Warrior', and now 'I' - which is incredible. I remember hearing it for the first time on a deja set, Paddington tube station - one of those places where the buzz is infringing on your 'phones. . listening to londons cheapest 'chicago' house and surrounded by extended families with samsonites, then the selector pulled it out. woahhhhhhh. 4, 5 rewinds later (..and believe me, the ipod touch crew will tell you about the shortcomings of the rewind facility..), destination reached and it was still going off. even as I write this, i've got no qualms about putting it back to back, and again.

While the debate rages on about what Funky House is, where it comes from, and where its going. . make sure you don't lose sight of what, at the end of the day, is good music. I haven't asked the grime converts yet what they think of this - but it'l be interesting to see if they think its too soft. Is it funky? or is just a particularly infectious slice of soulful? Beats me.

Throw it on though; Donaeo Myspace.

And tracks called.. 'I', but play them all while your there. Let me know what you think, I think ive forgotten what receiving a comment feels like.

Beyond the corporate finance of the City, the anodyne bars of the West End and the affluent riches out west, there is another London. Head out at sunset to the edges and just watch. Listen. As the sun drops, soon a different city emerges, a mesh of disparate groups and communities, visible but unseen, vocal - in countless vibrant accents, languages and dialects - but unheard, vital but unrecognised by the centre.

By night, the city comes alive with sound: raw slang, dialects, clanking trains, sub bass waves and rebel radio frequencies. This album is a reflection of these places, people, voices and cultures, a snapshot of the forgotten edges of a city at dusk: intense, in technicolour, in transition but forever an inspiration.

Keysound Video presents Margins Music is the debut visual feature from Blackdown and director Jonathan Howells.

It documents an audio visual journey through the margins of urban London, soundtracked by dubstep and grime from the forthcoming Dusk + Blackdown CD, "Margins Music" out August 18th 2008 on Keysound Recordings.

It features grime MC Durrty Goodz, singer Farrah and a cameo from Blackdown himself and was shot on location on the edges of London, including Southall, Green Lanes, the Isle of Dogs and Edmonton.

London: it's just a mundane city...

apologies for the sparseness of my posts, ive been plagued by all manner of slow internet connections, foreign keyboards and some supreme heat. So this is a bit of a breakthrough, above is a jpeg image lifted from juno.co.uk complete with japanese script.

Its afta 1s digital release finally getting some physicality too it. Those who know me, know that ive been harping on about this for months, and i think i will be harping on some more. from start to finish a complete masterpiece. complete beats. you dont come out the otherside wanting vocals, or a few more loops on any of the beats, its perfect as it is. August 11TH. Be ready to pay the import fee.
