gold bat

TGTBGAF = To Good To Be Given Away Free. Watch this catch on like 'banter'.

nasty, nasty beat from DJ Silencer. if your UK, this is the weather right now.

MP3: Silencer - Gold Bat

relevance

radio 1 is relevant about twice a week. but last week it was three times because they had the foresight to ask Hudson Mohawke to record the essential mix.

Available for a week on the listenAgain. & then construct a clever google search the week after to get an mp3 copy for keeps.

Yeah, it's hudson mohawke with the usual dose of colour, energy and messed r&b. And Pete Tong adlibs. oh yeah.

I lust a collaboration between him and rihanna.

LDN015

deep and swinging. it may be too early to call it but I feel this may be one of the favourite things keysound have put out. Sully - who if Dusk&Blackdown are to be believed - is just getting started on releasing a whole slew of mindblowers.

Out sooon. . .

drum pattern & hi hats so rare

respect to Rapid for making something grime-y yet accessible. Track's called 'Go Rapid', the beat(S) are deep and he deserves some appreciation for his hustle.

Album most likely coming SOON.

Infatu ation

this guy is niceness. Selfsays.

still bump his Something Out Of Nothing EP from time to time - look it up if it isn't ringing any bells.

Take note of the producer too. HouseShoes has been going nuts over him for a while now. . And if that isn't a cosign, I don't know what is.

krystalklearboogie

a genre captured seamlessly. it's been hard to ignore krystal klear's recent rise onto radio playlists.

'Tried For Your Love' has been a star of the last 3 deviation shows, and the groove has had me going to the soundcloud/myspace player intermittently throughout the week. The other tunes at the myspace show it isn't going to be a one off either...

... particularly 'Never Thought I Would Go' which has got me feeling nostalgic about an age I never saw. I'd hate to imagine what it would do to a veteran of that time. Powerful music.

I hassled for a soundcloud to use as embeddable proof. . .

Click go... and sail off to an era you know, or one you don't.

In his own words, 'the time to dance is returning' . . .

the next 30 days are going to be a lot if you're a follower of uk electronic music. make sure you pick up what you need though, cause late december - early january is dead as far as releases go.  I know I will need  multiple things to tide me over.

The above video is one of the records I will be purchasing before the year is out. Harry Craze (Antisocial) on deep medi. Out tomorrow. The A side 'WA6' is absolutely beautiful. can't be denied whether your into this sound or not.

I'd do it all again.

They ain't loving life.

MP3: Pill - Pain In They Eyes

one of the unofficial freshmen of '09 - been circling my radar since sometime in springtime. (May 21st according to my strict archives). so, not long - but already it feels like he's the realest in the US right now. Erm. Maybe mention Freddie Gibbs in that sentence too.

The cut. . .  : my favourite off of his new tape.

don't know what to do about that beat. Problem. content is far too deep for it to make me move like this -

Get much more of the same with the free, no DJ. . .  4075: The Refill . .

produced by Tank. Remember? Not as interesting a production as the majority of the r&b I've been harping on about but theres certainly a well placed charm. good for now but I can see it getting a little bit whiney in a while......shhhh. . . makes a change from beyonce though.

taken from the album 'It Must Be Magic'. someone recently reminded me about this on twitter - and like many of the classics from that era, it is now spending a 2nd spell in circulation chez moi. My only quarrel with this song is that at the 4.41m mark on the album version, it descends into a double time sax break... I was confused. Apart from that a totally flawless and beautiful listen.

hiphop doesn't beat this in my opinion. Can never be played too loud, and when i'm listening, I allllways walk with a bop. Stacey Epps provides a perfect break to the head nodding. damn that voice. don't rest until you've got that instrumental.

We can all make an educated guess as to what Vybz 'Ramping Shop' actually is. Song bangs a lot though. As does the Lil Silva blend by Dj Shredah. Does anything not fit well over that Lil Silva beat? (Can't find Shredah's myspace. . ) Ask around.

grime. an easy chorus. a wiley verse. This will/is getting plenty of play's on the days when I just wanna listen, don't wanna think. Taken from DjTargets: Aim High Volume 1. Prod. by Danny Weed who, looking at the quality of his recent output, must be determined not to be phased out by the baby booming producer class.

grime again. one liner after one liner over another danny weed production. Bravado that can't be backed up. 'I walk with a stick like a pharoah does'. No Ghetto. No you don't.

move along unless your a product of 1988/89. certain degree of nostalgia needed to still feel this.

so much swing. blows alll your worries to the touchline for 7 minutes or so. I continue to insist that jazz is for alll walks of life.

my album of the year continues to demand airtime. Eric Roberson has got words and a song for every opposite sex scenario. My current cooking music. All I need now is some Marble Worktops.

respect to Mr.Beatnick for turning us all on to this through his FACTmagazine write up. . . Prod. by Madlib. Fitting beat to see each day out with. . vocal cuts on this EP are worth your time too.

---

10 songs that are doing it right now. no fixing to make a pretty 1 genre list. no hiding tracks that other's are sure to scoff at. just 10.

drunk013

this is that song right now. Guido proving it isn't just post-joker hype.

my r&b thing is being stretched in all directions right now. .

Out now on Punch Drunk - digitally and physically.

Under The Sheets #2

Pariah's late night rework of Ellie Goulding's 'Under The Sheets' - another beautiful piece of work to add to his XX remix

part of Ellie Goulding's EP which appeared on Itunes today. .

Fantastic Mr Fox #2

Run Away

Late. but even if I only wake one of you upto this talent I'll have done my job.

Georgia Anne Muldrow from the early days.

Get it now, via CdBaby.

tutto il resto รจ noia

brilliantly epic whatever time of the day you listen, recently reminded of it by this film  (big up bbc4) -

N.B. it doesn't sound as good unless the recording is crackling a little.

I.e. don't get duped into buying a studio version on itunes and then wondering where the warped emotion has gone. .

lucky9teen

the luckyme brand itself makes it impossible for me to ignore anything they put their name too. if they wanted, they could have probably smartly packaged up a lot of average producers and i'd probably have copped. and raved. and hyped.

I respect the fact they haven't done this, such is the power of their charm.

Instead, they have climbed to an even higher rung in my mental snakes and ladders by blessing us with 7 mike slott beats, prettily pressed onto wax.

And . . . judging from the 2 tracks I have been lucky enough to acquire - it's exactly the Mike Slott I (we) know and love.

I love this sound. So, so listenable - wherever you are, whatever the task, there is always a melody you can pick from the layers to suit the situation.

Share My Bed

You know, I almost certainly wouldn't have listened to this had it not got JRocc's name on it.

basically, all remixer/deejay characters please please don't step up your (already frequent) blend game on my inbox...

Unless you've got credentials like the man in question of course

so much spirit and soul in this.

some form of mixtape is forthcoming. enjoy this slice in the meanwhile

blurring the lines

Joy Orbison's remix of Four Tet's 'Love Cry'

definitely worth the effort whoever performed the gilles peterson rip.

the sound that sits snugly between all the other sounds that I like.

Prismic Tops.

I never really understand what Dimlites music means. So i guess its not even really a surprise that I don't understand the majority of his recent blog.

2 things are currently certain though. EP coming on Now Again early 2010. And an album is coming from some planet some time after that. Perhaps called Tangerine Cheesecake. Perhaps not. But definitely both need to be added to the basket come shopping day.

'I'm making beaucoup money'

I really don't know what to expect from Adam Bhala-Lough's look into the life of Weezy, but I guess it's safe to say there will be a fair load of quotables that you won't find anyplace else.

It might be worth a watch purely for that.

Out November 17th.

No Robin. . . not like that. .

Rihanna on Robin Thickes lap by the looks of things.

for lack of a decent press shot.

you may have been exposed to a new Robin Thicke track - Meiple (with the e acute) , featuring jigga.

of course, the collaboration had me interested - I even wanted some context about the title,

but on listening I was nothing short of appalled.  considering some of the things we know robin can do with his voice, this is just not a credible end product. I'm sorry.

And jay, next time you should probably consider leaving this slot to gucci or another garbler.

horror show over -  I had to go straight back to some of his previous tracks to ensure my respect for him remained intact.

It does. I sure hope the album is more like this than like that.

I love you endlessly.

2010 will see the brilliant solo debut from guillemots kingpin fyfe dangerfield. Here is the album opener. 4 plays of this and you'll be hook, line and sinkered. I'll put my professional reputation on it.

Look out for 'Fly Yellow Moon' early 2010. & school up on the guillemots so you at least look like you know what your talking about when this guy's selling shows left, right and centre.

Kyle Hall is superb.

seriously, even for those who don't even know about the detroit house scene, this mix is brilliant. Although, I don't know any other purveyors of this sound with which to compare him. Maybe they are all this good. You can kinda tell this guy is out of detroit. Soul infused from start to finish.

And there is a beautiful EP dropping real real soon - Rush Hour

I didn't even mention his age. 1991.

'them man are gass on telly'

Boy Better Know. a hit. a hit. a hit. whether you like it or not.

one for the lager louts. but it works, I wish the to and fro staccatto at the end went on for longer though.

*no serious state of grime/crossover talk here*

circa 2002

I used to be big on music like this back when I was kicking out at the world. I was never allowed a haircut to match though. Far too edgy.

But theres a certain charm to Hatcham Social which make them more than just teenage nostalgia  - possibly the fact they sound like they are a mixture of the smiths, the libertines and the NMe'S next fad.

Either way, I can't listen to them without recalling those years. the texts, the sweethearts, my secret love of hiphop ('chav' music), class clowns, saturday morning rugby. Finally realizing it was cooler to let my hair go wild than get the wet look gel out. It allll comes flooding back.

Move along if you don't have any guitar based memories to dwell on.
