MP3: Cassie - Must Be Love (Instrumental)
(zshare)
remember Mario Winans...? on buttons here. . . No doubt Still living off his PLATINUM last album. Wish I had a copy of this to bump.
damn. Cassie always seems to get the beats that other artists need.
Oh yeah. I can up the vocal with the DIDDY verse if people are interested. . . . ?

Layers
Further to my Dublab Proton Drive post. . . where I touched on the rewards for donating. .
One of these audio gifts that I have been fortunate to hear. . .is Take AKA Sweatson Klank's 'Sweatson's Trajectory' Mix CD. This guy may not be blowing up in your face right now. . but by the looks of thing's he's certainly on the slow burn. Some of the new pieces I've been fortunate to hear will certainly make you sit up and take more notice.
Moovmnt recently clocked on to this. Forthcoming pieces noted there. . Including streams of his FlyLo and Architeq remixes. soon to hit wax. both are huge. Oh yeah... European tour dates too!
But the mix.
which is available to stream in the soundcloud player below. .
is by far one of the most effortlessly flowing pieces of music I have heard in a long time. Knitting together everything from Joker to TV on the Radio to Bobby Hutcherson to Enemy Earth. (TrackList) It takes a real musical head to be able to layer sounds together this well. .
Listen ! Sleep to it. Dance to it. Drink to it. Anything. .
If you like it. . . find a way to support him and Dublab.
You can grab a hard copy, either when its pressed later on in the summer (will be copies UK way) OR donate to the appropriate Dublab package to receive it and more.
Artwork by Augustine Kofie. Who is on a superhuman level right now.

Pill.
Through all the hiphop drivel I've subjected myself to this week, this is the only guy to stick. His name's Pill. He has a forthcoming album/tape '4075: The Refill'.
'ain't shit in the house, but of course we got a stereo'
If only life was that simple.
MP3: Pill - Music
And of course. . .a quick scan through the innernets - The Fader are already up with him. . (thats where the videos from..durrrrm)
Props to them Props to him. Props to Hiphop for inspiring these guys

DubLab

my favourite ever ever ever radio station. . .Dublab. . (broadcasting home to Matthew David, Take, Teebs. . Exile. . ) are holding what they call a 'Proton Drive'.
In order to keep on creatively pushing forward (and sadly, even to go on existing. . ) they need me and you to put up a little bit, or a lot - depending on personal wealth - of our $ in their fund.
They are a registered non profit arts organization so it can certainly be assured that there won't be any British Government business going on.
If you haven't tuned in to date. . I don't expect you to go in there throwing money around blindly. . . Tune in anytime, day or night, to see what I mean.
I won't say anymore on this. . . details, plans for the donations, rewards for donating and the radio stream can all be found here. And as if my word isn't enough. . MyManHenri at 92bpm also stakes his reputation on Dublab's dopeness . . .
Long Live Dublab.

In his own words. . .
"If this was a contestant at next top model. . .it would be a girl with a strange, asymmetrical face. she has no bangs. something about the way she moves her limbs and whole body is strangely appealing, but also very awkward, intimidating even. . her heels magically leave a trace of nice but acidy-smelling flowers on the floor...."

Daru is incredibly, incredibly slept on. . and A.B. (although previously unknown to me. . ) has one of those dripping neo-soul voices that sound intriguing with or without a beat to go on.... guests too. . .with . . ELZHI ( who's currently dispatching any beat thats put in front of him without a thought. . ) Black Milk. . and even T3. passing through. .
on Itunes with a simple search. and potentially one of the strongest hiphop/soul albums to grace me this year. (I know I say that kinda line every week. . )
Check MY cut on the album. . .
the way the drums come in start's me and You stepping with out fail.
Grime in Swindon.
props have to be given. . . that Maniac beat in front of that audience (R1's Big Weekend). . . I hope tinchy continues to toe the line of chart success and staying true to grime. And that eventually the two coincide. That would make a whole lot of people very happy.
Not everyones feeling it though. Check the footage here. . . rollllling. . .

Plates

Not the most attractive flyer I've ever posted up. But then the music isn't all that pretty. Of course with exceptions.
I've never been to an event like this. . .do you just float between the rooms hoping to catch the deejays that you want? Or do they issue set times? Do you have to learn the distinguish characteristics of each beforehand. . ?
It's exam season so my naivety is set to continue. Dope line-up though. .

Legends of Benin
I'm sorry but Analog Africa's compilations are in a different league...at least 3 months to fully understand the roots of each one. Should really bring you back down to earth. . .It ain't all about the latest buzz & I'm pretty much the first person that needs to be told that.
No speculation needed. This is my summer listening.
From the soundclips, track 14 is going to be my jam of jams.

Acid Bells
If theres one thing I pride myself on its my ability to spot a martyn release early. This time Belgium label Curle have given his remixes of Efdemin's 'Acid Bells' a home on wax. The idea sounds very Tech House, but the finished product is definitely the signature Martyn sound. Well the '(Dark Mix)' is.
The '(Bittersweet Mix)' has been created in the same vein as 'Bridge' off the LP. Piano. And slightly more subdued 'Acid Bells' knocking away in the background.
I don't think this will bowl many people over, but again. . consistency and quality etc. . . [Usual Martyn blurb]
Listen to the tracks on his Myspace.
Cop at Juno.
Also big him up for last nights guestmix on Gilles Peterson. He played some funky!
And apparently he smashed Deviation last night.
All in all, I imagine he's in a good place right now.

Rude Kid & Jme on the remix.
big ups to Elijah and Skilliam (Butterz Dj's) for their show last night. More from it soon, but Rude Kid was the guest and came with a load of heat. Now I truly know why some dj's are hell bent on playing solely grime instrumentals...!

pick up your mic # 1
we all got those hiphop instro's that make us want to put some words together. Funkmaster Flex uses this EVERY time he has a guest freestyling. has to be a starting point.
lazy post. but some dwele got me sleepy. Do people have his Jazzcafe set on mp3...? Or is just me?
And big up to all those who have messaged me in various formats saying how they check my thoughts. I seem to have the most average comment count of all time. but personal feedback is increasing. It's nice. But I do it cause I want too!! OUT.

the finest funky set I have ever heard.

ID for the first track needed. I even googled the lyrics a few times.

wigflex 001
Wigflex 001 - Lame Car / The More I Know Her / Schlupinski / Jangle Fuss
touching every corner of electronic music without sounding like the journey has been forced.
Geiom's 'Lame Car' is my pick. Not because he's the industry standard name we recognize. but because while I was putting the elastic sheet on my bed this evening, I managed to make up a skank that fits the beat to a T. It's his move on funky apparently. his recent pieces have been moving in that direction, yet it hasn't really been commented on. Watch the Berkane Sol releases for some hard evidence. . .
But no, all brilliant efforts. on what seems to be a producer SpamChop's Wigflex night --> label. Nottingham based I think. And according to someone I heard 'speaking' on the internet. . there is some insane stuff coming. Hopefully in the same vein.
Uniqueness needed in your record box.
