I have a thing for voices - nasally, gruff, gravelly, silky. Even girls with deep voices. Other guys don't like them. I hunt em. Where The Wild Things Are just happens to have some of the most distinct voices in hollyweird on a film reel. James Gandolfini? Check. Forrest Whittaker, the sound of sad broken wisdom? Check. Gruff, rough Mark Ruffalo? Come on now. Crazy.
In class they say one of the hardest things to do is to write from a kid's perspective. I think it's just as hard to show the world how a kid sees it. The famous book does just that. Spike Jonze does just that. This is very much a film about growing up, for kids and grown ups alike. It's surprisingly dark. It's also got an amazing soundtrack which was written by Jonze's ex-girlfriend, Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, with contributions from her bandmates and some members of The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather
Max Records is the coolest entertainment name ever. Max Records is the coolest entertainment boy ever. He might even win an Oscar. He should.
I abso-positively love this movie. It just might be my favourite of 09. One of my favourites ever. Where The Wild Things Are is where i'm at
