Long Live The Plan EP

Illumsphere's 2nd release should be out and physical by the end of the calendar year.

I didn't feel the first release particularly, but at the time I was looking for more in all the beats I heard. Need for evolution & all that music 'which box does this fit in' pessimism. 

But here I get the progression I craved. New influences have been brought forward to work with the older sounds, and the result is a hybrid that few are similar to. Beautiful artwork & a samiyam remix to top the package off.

The record flirts with a brand of dubstep similar to that of 2562/martyns so it wasn't really a surprise to me that there's a forthcoming illumsphere remix of martyns 'brilliant orange' - a snippet of which can be heard here.

Forward music which is worthy of  further investigation at the minimum.

the luckyme brand itself makes it impossible for me to ignore anything they put their name too. if they wanted, they could have probably smartly packaged up a lot of average producers and i'd probably have copped. and raved. and hyped.

I respect the fact they haven't done this, such is the power of their charm.

Instead, they have climbed to an even higher rung in my mental snakes and ladders by blessing us with 7 mike slott beats, prettily pressed onto wax.

And . . . judging from the 2 tracks I have been lucky enough to acquire - it's exactly the Mike Slott I (we) know and love.

I love this sound. So, so listenable - wherever you are, whatever the task, there is always a melody you can pick from the layers to suit the situation.

I never really understand what Dimlites music means. So i guess its not even really a surprise that I don't understand the majority of his recent blog.

2 things are currently certain though. EP coming on Now Again early 2010. And an album is coming from some planet some time after that. Perhaps called Tangerine Cheesecake. Perhaps not. But definitely both need to be added to the basket come shopping day.

After giving Oh No's Ethiopium the run around my ipod for much of my trip to the continent, I can comfortably say that it more than lives up to its turkish predecessor. It's going to sound so good on a system.

If I had the money I'd be tracking Oh No down right now and commissioning a round the world trip to translate each nations sound into universal hiphop dialect. Any social entrepreneurs reading - hook the brother up.

lights&tunnels

been a fan of mindesign ever since I stumbled upon him (and fellow klipmoder's suzi analogue and knxwledge) kicking beats out on a windy afternoon in phillie. Via Ustream of course.

caught up with him the other day and was greeted with the news that he had finally penned something of a deal with recordbreakin (phillie based label). . to release a digital EP that will go by the name 'lights & tunnels' . . I've heard a few pieces. Some from moovmnt.com. And it sounds as if it's going to live up to the promise of his live show. .

A more than worthy release for the klipmode ranks - completely independent sound but a sound that complements the other's sounds so well. Get up on them. . . & watch this space. .
